The Summit of the heads of state of the founders of the International Fund for Saving the Aral Sea began in Dushanbe

Today, President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov, who is on a working visit to the Republic of Tajikistan, is taking part in the next Summit of the Heads of Founding States of the International Fund for Saving the Aral Sea (IFAS).

During the meeting, its participants will summarize the results of the joint work done recently, discuss new, specific directions for further five-sided interaction, as well as possible forms of partnership between IFAS and authoritative international structures, primarily with the United Nations.

Like all members of the Fund, Turkmenistan not only implements large-scale national projects and programs, but also actively promotes the expansion of regional cooperation to address such pressing issues as improving the socio-economic and environmental situation in the Aral Sea region, rational water use, environmental protection and improvement, adaptation to climate change, which is of great importance not only regionally, but also globally.

In an effort to put its accumulated solid experience and its creative potential at the service of all humanity, Turkmenistan has always advocated the consideration of water and environmental issues in Central Asia on the basis of generally recognized norms of international law, taking into account the interests of all countries in the region and with the participation of international organizations, recognizing that in this, On this issue, regional consensus is the only acceptable form for effective interstate interaction.

Specific initiatives put forward by the Turkmen side, including promoting «water diplomacy» as a new form of multilateral diplomatic communication on water issues, are directly related to the key goals and objectives of the United Nations, primarily to ensure global peace, stability and security, achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.
